"Lydia"

Lydia is a virologist who worked for the CDC. She was a single woman in her mid 20s and was a deeply troubled woman, facing difficulties in her social life and personal life. On October 4th 1999 an Unknown Virus had spread, Lydia knew a wide array of viruses and infections yet something like this was all too new and upsetting for her to witness. The dead were cannibalizing the living and she could not fathom how it was possible. This made her feel so much more helpless.

She was only aware that the skin looked decayed and rotten on the outside and the brain had wired itself to perform in ways that seem inhuman. The need for consuming living flesh was something the people with this virus had a desire for. Lydia had to evacuate the city with her fears of the outbreak getting worse. She was to be put in a quarantine safe unit weeks after the virus had spread throughout both America and Canada.

People were not allowed to step outside of the quarantine safe zone as the risks of infections and the spread of the virus was high. The government had burned bodies that had recently passed or died outside of or in the quarantine safe zone. This was to prevent the virus from spreading rapidly to any vulnerable person. The quarantine safe zone is massive and many people had panicked and wonder when a cure for this new virus will be made. Lydia and 30 other people made up of virologists, doctors, researchers and other medical personnel had been studying the virus. They noted it looked similar to Necrotizing fasciitis, although it is rare and can spread through the body quickly and cause death. They had noticed that the skin performs in similar ways to that of Necrotizing fasciitis. But they were still early into the research of this new virus, and many of the leads they had were not similar enough in nature to make a conclusion to what the virus may be.

The quarantine safe zone had fallen over a couple months when it came to how it was run, politics and propaganda. The people of the safe zone had integrated and felt used to the safe zone over the coming winter. They fell for propaganda and anything unjust because they had assumed finding a cure would be difficult and an impossible measure. But slowly the safe zone was becoming corrupt and Lydia wanted no part in it. She decided to set out and find leads to a cure, and so she recruited 5 people in the medical unit of the safe zone and 3 military personnel to help her venture outside of the safe zone walls, Which was an illegal thing to do. But regardless of that she wanted to be the one tp find a cure.

October 4th 1999 "things go by fast"

Her hopelessness in the world is like a warm blanket wrapped around her suffocating every last thought that she could think of. Lydia had not eaten for days thinking about all the "what if's" and if she would end up like the people who had turned into what seemed to be monsters in her eyes. She was not getting used to the sight and smell of death creeping up in every corner. Lydia was already struggling mentally as is and this was just the icing on the cake for her.

Something about being alone on her cold kitchen floor hudled around candles and newspapers waiting for what tragity would strike next. She refused to turn on her radio for a good couple days because she could already hear the chaos outside of her apartment balcony. Lydia did not eat much to begin with and all the things happening in the world just made her appitie dwindle. She couldn't even describe the way her stomach felt. It felt like someone pulling grass and throwing it away like it was nothing, someone picking the petels off a daisy and finding little ants hiding for cover underneath the last few petels. She felt like she could vomit her words out but at the same time she could not.

The thoughts of what was on the radio had gotten to her fast, and she decided to turn it on to see what kind of things government officals were saying. Different from the "stay indoors order" they had instructed for people to grab any form of identification, medical supplys or medicine, clean clothing, personal hygiene items and anything else of importance. They had adviced people to seek any military personnel and military vehical outside near government buildings, neighborhoods, Apartment units, Hospitals etc. This was important news to Lydia, yet she was too afraid to confront the outside world as the dead began to slowly overrun the living.

Although her anxiety ran strong she decided that it was best for her to step in and come forth telling military personnel that she indeed worked at the CDC with documented proof. She ran away quickly before being deployed or taken to any government safe zone, as she felt suicide was a better option than living in a world that felt like hell itself. Although the military did not demand people who worked with the CDC to come forth many people had decided to step in and try to prevent the spread of this new found virus. Many of the people who worked in the medical field had felt pressured into a world slowly being overrun by this new virus, and so they resulted in harm or killing themselves due to the pressure and not understanding what this virus was.
