Media Review of the Month How to Train your Dragon 2 (2014) I rated this movie a 9/10 on my watchlist. I believe that it was worth the score, due to how well it was compared to the first installment in the franchise . How to train your dragon 1 was really well paced, introduced characters pretty quick and I felt that it didn't suffer from that much bulk compared to HTTYD3. This movie gets serious like half way in,,, but the begining of the movie is actually pretty interesting. It starts off with a race, but for some reason Snotlout and Fishlegs are in love with Ruffnut? it was so odd? but then I relized Hiccup and Astrid are a couple, I figured thats why these two, chasing the only other girl their age in their group seems to be shoe horned in the plot :p After the first part of the film, Hiccup and toothless are shown on screen and it is so adorable :3 !!! We get to see their development more on screen, showing the audience how well these two are together!.. Astrid shows up shortly and its also really cute seeing how Hiccup and Astrids character development grew compared to the first film. My only issue though is how they made Toothless act a bit more like a dog? I understand that Toothless is more comfortable with his rider, but I feel like if his manerisms in the first movie was kept it would have been nice to see. I didn't really have an issue with the other characters personalities. (i think the other 4 side characters were watered down tho lol) I wanna say, after all of that plus meeting a new character nqamed "Eret son of Eret" we get to like, the meat and potatoes of this movie. Valka and her Dragons, literally the Queen of Dragons. She controls A HUGE DRAGON called the Alpha, The Aplha becomes important in this movies plot. we are then shown that Hiccups mom is still alive, that she was actually safe with all of these dragons that she was protecting from the villain of the movie, Drago Bludvist who captures and hurts dragons. We then find out about Valkas dragon sanctuary, where Hiccup is asked questions about Toothless. The scenes in this half of the film are incredibly beautiful and emotionally touching. The other riders are searching for hiccup, they also kiddnap Eret after an entire scene where they are all fighting eachother. I thought this was pretty funny, also ruffnut now thinks eret is super hot, so she no longer cares about snotlout and fishlegs thristing for her, which was a little silly.
